Reforestation Project Volunteering
Our Project
The Peruvian Amazon is one of the most important ecological zones on the planet. It is made up of a vast region of the central and northern part of South America that includes the rainforest of the Amazon River basin and houses the fifth part of the world's fresh water.
Located at kilometer 14 of the Iquitos-Nauta highway, in the district of San Juan Bautista, province of Maynas, department of Loreto, a fertile land of 9.7 hectares known as “Los Cedros del Varillal” extends. It has a lagoon, two natural pools. In that splendid place live 29 species of birds, among the rich flora and fauna (for example, two species of monkeys). This place borders the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve (http://www.sernanp.gob.pe/allpahuayo-mishana), a strategic space for the preservation of biodiversity, tourism development and nature research.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project is to develop a space for the preservation of the natural resources of the Amazon, research and learning of ancestral cultural knowledge and the implementation of a model of a self-managed integral system of health promotion through therapies based on medicinal plants .
COMPONENTS
The project has three components:
Component 1. CREATION OF A PRIVATE CONSERVATION AREA
The Private Conservation Areas-ACP are those properties of private property, of natural or legal persons, in whose scope there are representative samples of the natural ecosystem characteristic of the environment in which they are located, and which on their own initiative and on a voluntary basis, are conserved by their owners. In this way, the “Los Cedros del Varillal” farm will be established as a space of great diversity, especially botany, where you can learn about the operation of the ecological systems of the Amazon through a reforestation project and sustainable resource management, especially through permaculture. Being an ACP would grant the state protection of the property and its value as a visiting space for tourists and professionals interested in the ecology and preservation of the Amazonian environment.
Strategic Actions:
- Study on the biological potential of the area.
- Topographic study.
- Legal management before the State (www.sernamp.gob.pe) for the granting of the resolution that gives the property the character of ACP.
- Reforestation Plan.
- Construction of Amazon nursery “Blue AmaZone”.
- Implementation of Reforestation Plan.
- Monitoring and sustainability.
Component 2. INTERACTIVE BOTANICAL GARDEN
The objective of this component is the development of a space for the study and experimentation of cultural and ancestral knowledge based on the healing potential of Amazonian plants. Also the development of a botanical space so that visitors and professionals can know the heterogeneity of the botanical wealth of the Amazon.
Strategic Actions:
- Blue AmaZone Botanical Garden construction plan.
- Purchase of materials and medicinal plants.
- Development of the Blue AmaZone Botanical Garden Management Manual.
- Care management and preservation of the garden through inter-institutional agreements and alliances and volunteering.
- Presentation materials (brochures, leaflets, magazine).
Component 3. HEALTH THERAPIES
The objective is to develop preventive and curative health therapies that have a special orientation to healthy living and the implementation of original medicinal therapies and Ayurveda therapies.
Health therapies will aim at social assistance.
Strategic Actions:
- Implementation of training courses in health therapies.
- Construction of a maloca for healing therapies.
- Development of Amazonian permaculture project.
- Holding an annual conference on ancestral medicinal knowledge.
- Construction of an Amazonian and Ayurveda Natural Medicine Therapy Center.
PROJECT DEADLINE:
The estimated project term is 5 years.
